Taito-Ku

(1) Sensoji temple in Asakusa. This buddhist temple is situated on a larger area together with some other beautiful buildings. The lights are very impressive during the night. At daytime, various shops nearby open to lure tourists in.

(2) A bus paves its way through the streets.

(3) One of the many convenience stores (conbinis). You can get there almost everything you need for up to 24 hours a day. There were three conbinis in the neighbourhood of my hotel.

(4) Ueno park is a large public park with many things to explore.

(5) My nightly trip through Taito-Ku led me - quite unplanned - to the Sensoji temple.

The Taito City web site also has information in English language, although the Japanese one is much more up-to-date.

My impression

My hotel was situated near the train station Minami-senju in Taito-ku. The ward has a slightly oldfashioned style and there are a lot of restaurants, (sort of) cheap hotels and of course the almighty convinience stores. It was summer and sometimes old people were just lying there, forcing everyone to step over them. At the train station, workers started building a new train line. A small shopping centre was already finished.
The big train station Ueno and the Ueon park are also situated in Taito-Ku.
