Windows 95
Microsoft's new graphical environment Windows95 was vastly different from its predecessor Windows 3.11. Features like the start button, a taskbar, long file names, the new file manager (explorer) and a functional desktop were new to old Windows users although many features could be found before on other computer. The 32 bit extension was built-in but Windows was still built upon DOS. Despite only average sales at the beginning, more and more developers released specific Win95 programs which also enabled Microsoft to sell more copies. The new graphical environment also required more processing power and more memory - happy times for (almost) the whole computer industry.
